Albert Ernest Del Negro, M.D., died of a short illness on Dec. 10, 2010, at the age of 97, only three weeks short of his 98th birthday.
Services will be conducted from the LaMonica Memorial Home, 145 E. Mt. Pleasant Ave., Livingston, on Tuesday, Dec. 14, 2010, at 9 a.m., followed by the Mass of Christian Burial in Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament Church in Roseland at 10 a.m. Entombment will be in Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Upper Montclair. Visitation is on Monday from 5 to 9 p.m.
Dr. Del Negro was born on Jan. 8, 1913, to Concetta (nee Lordi) and Alfonso Del Negro of Roseville Avenue, Newark, N.J. and was the youngest of 13 children.
He resided with his daughter, Louise, in West Palm Beach, Fla., before returning to Berwyn, Pa. in May of 2010.
Dr. Del Negro graduated from Syracuse University School of Medicine in 1937 and was a board-certified internist. He was the chief of staff at Clara Maass Medical Center in Belleville and on staff at Columbus Hospital in Newark. The Italian Tribune honored him with the "Humanitarian of the Year" Award by the Ace Alagna Civic Association in 1985. He was also a member of the American College of Cardiology. Dr. Del Negro actively served in the U.S. Army from 1941 to 1947, where he was designated lieutenant colonel and hospital commander during World War II. He was honored by the U.S. Army with the American Defense Service Medal, Asiatic Pacific Theater Campaign Ribbon, World War II Victory Medal and the American Theater Campaign Ribbon, and discharged from the Reserve in 1952.
He was the beloved husband of the late Josephine (nee Galati); loving father of Dr Albert A. Del Negro of Annapolis, Md., Dr Louise Susan Del Negro of Berwyn, Pa., Peter C. Del Negro of Belleville, N.J., and Martha Moreno of Providence, R.I.; dear brother of Helen Rinaldi Del Negro, and cherished grandfather of 10 grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to the Neighborhood Hospice 400 E. Marshall St., West Chester, Pa. 19380.
